🌅 East Crete (Heraklion & Surroundings)

Best for: history, culture, and beautiful coastline

  • Heraklion – The island’s capital, with shops, restaurants, and a lively vibe.

  • Knossos Palace – Explore the legendary Minoan ruins and learn about ancient history.

  • Agios Nikolaos (where Alex’s family lives)) – Picturesque coastal town with Lake Voulismeni, shops, restaurants, and several beaches. Our personal tip: rent a boat to explore the coastline around Agios Nikolaos.

  • Elounda & Spinalonga Island – Elegant seaside towns with boat trips and historic sites.

  • Archanes & Villages – Charming countryside villages with local wineries and tavernas.

☀️ South Crete (Plakias & Beyond)

Best for: relaxing beaches, waterfalls, and authentic Cretan villages

  • Plakias – A charming seaside village with crystal-clear waters, cozy cafés, and a laid-back vibe. Our personal tip: a cliff walk.

  • Kourtaliotiko Gorge & Preveli Waterfall – Near Plakias, enjoy scenic hikes, palm tree beaches, and a stunning waterfall. 🌴💦

  • Matala – Famous for cliffside caves and a relaxed, bohemian atmosphere.

  • Agia Galini – Picturesque fishing village with a scenic harbor and seaside tavernas.
